Noenoe K. Silva is Professor of Indigenous Politics and Hawaiian Language at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and author of The Power of the Steel-tipped Pen and Aloha Betrayed: Native Hawaiian Resistance to American Colonialism, both published by Duke University Press.
In this talk, Noenoe presented highlights from the legal writings of Joseph Mokuohai Poepoe (1854–1913), who was an attorney, politician, newspaper editor, translator, and author of many serialized moolelo (stories), including Hiiakaikapoliopele.
