The Judiciary History Center has partnered with local and national organizations like the Center for Civic Education, the Hawaii State Bar Association, the Federal Judicial Center, the American Bar Association, Street Law, the Hawaii Department of Education, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the United States District Court – District of Hawaii, and the Hawaii Council for the Humanities to provide teachers with several opportunities per year to engage in professional development.

James Madison Legacy Project Cohort 3
The Center, collaborating with the Center for Civic Education, and the Hawaii State Department of Education, Social Studies program, will offer a six-day Summer Institute in June 2017 with follow-up workshops consisting of a two-day workshop in the Fall of 2017, and a one-day workshop in the Spring of 2018.
The institute and workshops will examine the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. Workshop sessions will showcase successful teaching pedagogy that aligns to the C3 Framework. The cohort is open to both public and private 6 - 12 social studies teachers. During the summer institute, participating Hawaii teachers will work with visiting teachers from Alaska.
Connecting Law, Social Justice, Student-Centered Learning, and the Spirit of Aloha
The Center, collaborating with the United States District Court – District of Hawaii, the Hawaii State Bar Association Civic Education Committee, and the Hawaii State Department of Education, Social Studies program, will offer a three-day workshop in June.
This workshop will examine substantive issues of law, social justice, race, and policy related to the Hawaii State Constitution, federalism, and political processes. Workshop sessions will showcase successful teaching methodology that aligns to the C3 Framework.
The workshop is open to public and private school social studies 6 - 12 social studies teachers.
